Suggested Basic UI improvements

Hello!

I'm a long time 4x player, and have played just about every Space 4x game out there. Galactic Civilizations IV has a lot of great elements to it, but there are some basic UI issues that I would love to see fixed in upcoming patches.

  • Adjustable Mouse Wheel Zoom Speed (And why is Zoom Out faster than Zoom in?)
  • Make it easier to see what is selected at distant zooms.
    • Fleets, especially, are very hard to see which one is selected when zoomed out. Even zoomed in, if you have a bunch of stuff clustered together, it can be very hard to see.
    • Maybe allow customization here, size/color/shape of icon
  • Ways to Center/Auto Zoom on Selected Unit
    • Make a button on the bottom left UI element that auto-centers, or possibly zooms, to selected item.
    • Alternatively, make it so when the 3D representation of the unit is clicked, it centers on unit, double click centers and zooms.
  • Make it easier to identify fleets
    • Maybe the option to show fleet names at closer zoom levels, similar to how planets work.
    • A hotkey system, like the numbers on top of the keyboard, would be great, similar to how most RTS games work.
  • More Sorting Options at shipyards
    • Maybe a custom order list option so I can put them in order? Or sort by Hull size?
  • Show the linked planet's population at Shipyard for making decisions on ships that consume a citizen.

I hope that fixes like these can be implemented, as they'd make the basic gameplay loop far smoother. I feel like I spend 30% of my time in this game figuring out what it selected now, where the unit is, and zooming in and out.
