Volley Issues Under 2.6.581858

I have 2 suggestions related to volley attacks:

  1. Modify the way volley attacks by a fleet against an enemy fleet work.
    1. Currently, if I execute a volley attack from a fleet against another fleet, all of the volley power is directed at only one of the ships in the enemy fleet which is a waste of most of my volley attack power.
    2. I believe better rules could be implemented.  For example:
      1. What I would like to see is:
        1. Let each ship independently target it's own enemy ship in the enemy fleet with the following rules:
        2. start with the ship in my fleet with the weakest volley power
        3. have that ship target the ship in the enemy fleet with the weakest defenses
        4. continue through all of the ships in my fleet selecting a target ship with the restriction that, until all enemy ships have been targeted at least once, the ship may not target an enemy ship that has already been targeted
    3. This would spread the power of the fleet volley attack more intelligently across the target fleet's ships than just having all of the volley power go against one enemy ship.
  2. Create a mechanism for reporting the results of a volley attack.
    1. After each volley attack, the information I would like to see is:
      1. the name of the attacking ship
      2. the type of volley attack (beam or missile) and the power of the attack
      3. the name of the target ship and its hit points prior to the attack
      4. the amount of damage (hit points lost) along with any math that makes the damage different that the attack power
      5. whether or not the target ship was destroyed.  If it was not destroyed show the remaining hit points.
    2. This information could be displayed in the Monthly News Report or in a new tab next to the Monthly News Report that would contain battle and volley results.

My above suggestions are just that: suggestions.  They are intended to give you a starting point for thinking about how to address the 2 issues.

The following save file can be used to demonstrate the fleet volley attack issue:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t3vwohy2rnq9u14crl6j0/Fleet-Attack-Issue.GC4Sav?rlkey=ht4u78x7egbktp1y1lwovjgop&st=ox6lz0pm&dl=0

To recreate the issue:

  1. Load the above save file
  2. Navigate to my core world named "Sham IV"
  3. Diagonally up and to the left of Sham IV you should see an enemy world named "Timotheus III"
  4. To the left of Timotheus III you should see a fleet of 16 ships that is mine and a fleet of 48 ships that belongs to the Terran Resistance (shown in the first screen snapshot below)
  5. Move my fleet of 16 ships to a cell next to the enemy fleet of 48 ships
  6. Select the Beam Volley icon then move your cursor over the enemy fleet of 48 ships
    1. the second screen snapshot below shows the popup window that shows that my fleet's beam volley attack should do damage of between 0 and 83
    2. left-click on the enemy fleet of 48 ships and you will see that the enemy fleet now only has 47 ships indicating that my beam volley attack of between 0 and 83 only killed one ship
  7. Select the Missile Volley icon then move your cursor over the enemy fleet of 47 ships
    1. the third screen snapshot below shows the popup window that shows that my fleet's missile volley attack should also do domage of between 0 and 83
    2. left-click on the enemy fleet of 47 ships and you will see that the enemy fleet now only has 46 ships indicating that my missile volley attack of between 0 and 83 only killed one ship
  8. Now, reload the above save file so that we can try using our volley attacks in a different way and then compare the results with the above results
  9. Follow steps 2, 3, and 4 to get back to where the fleets are located
  10. Now, instead of moving my entire fleet next to the enemy fleet, just move 1 of the ships in my fleet next to the enemy fleet
  11. With my single ship selected, select the Beam Volley icon then move your cursor over the enemy fleet of 48 ships
    1. the fourth screen snapshot below shows the popup window that shows that my fleet's beam volley attack should do damage of between 0 and 5
    2. left-click on the enemy fleet of 48 ships and you will see that the enemy fleet now only has 47 ships indicating that my beam volley attack of between 0 and 5 killed a ship
  12. Select the Missile Volley icon then move your cursor over the enemy fleet of 47 ships
    1. the fifth screen snapshot below shows the popup window that shows that my fleet's missile volley attack should also do domage of between 0 and 5
    2. left-click on the enemy fleet of 47 ships and you will see that the enemy fleet now only has 46 ships indicating that my missile volley attack of between 0 and 5 also killed a ship
  13. Continue moving one ship at a time into the same cell next to the enemy fleet and attacking the enemy fleet with a beam volley and a missile volley until all of my ships have been moved into the same cell next to the enemy fleet
    1. the sixth screen snapshot below shows that the enemy fleet has now been reduced from 48 ships to 24 ships, which is a tremendous improvement using single ship volley attacks vs. going from 48 to 46 with full fleet volley attacks

You probably noticed that is is very tedious moving one ship at a time and doing a beam volley attack and a missile volley attack for each ship.  The purpose of my suggestion is to allow players to get a similar result doing fleet volley attacks as they do by doing individual ship volley attacks.
