Fiinding games

I'm not able to find a multi player game of Gal Civ 4 on steam that can be joined. Sadly, I have no friends to ask. I've had a Steam account since 2004 and I have 15k hours in Civ but I've never played a strategy game, multi player, on line or otherwise. UT and WOW don't count.
But Gal Civ forces me out of my Civ comfort zones so now I want the experience of being utterly destroyed by another live player, great fun I imagine.
Are there places to find Gal civ players for pick up games?
Steam is great I would guess if I had a thousand Steam friends.
As always, any help is appreciated.
