How to solve the problem of saving grouped parts as a new part when i have toggeled symmetry along horizontal axis.

I am trying to build weapon turrets for my ships. But when i am toggeling symmetry along the horizontal axis, than the toggeled side does not get saved. I am basically getting only half a turret. Could it be that the symmetric part is not counted as "connected" by the engine?
